RE-HOMING YOUR TERRIER

Thank you for looking to Russell Rescue, Inc. for assistance in finding a new home for your Jack Russell Terrier.  We receive many inquires daily from people who for many reasons are unable to keep their dogs and we are thankful that you turn to us.  Russell Rescue only works with Jack Russell Terriers, unlike your average Humane Society, shelter or rescue group that works with every breed of dog and many times just aren't educated enough about the breed to place them into the "right" home. We believe this makes us much better equipped to find your terrier its new "furever" home!

If you purchased your Jack Russell Terrier from a breeder please contact them first; many breeders will take dogs that they have bred back and rehome them.  (JRTCA Breeders will usually take their dogs back regardless of age)

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER

In most cases, if it is determined that your terrier is appropriate for placement through RRI you will need to foster your terrier or assist us in locating a foster for your terrier until an appropriate home can be found. Most of our foster homes are filled by Jack Russell Terriers rescued from shelters where they were scheduled for euthanasia.

If you have an emergency situation please contact the local NO KILL Shelter in your area to assist you.

If would like RRI to find a home for your terrier you will need to follow this link and complete the RRI Personality Form (once completed save it under the name of your terrier) and send it along with a picture of your terrier (See Samples Below: profiles submitted without pictures will not be considered) to RRI.CA.OwnerSurrender@gmail.com. Once received, we will review the profile and picture to determine if your terrier appears appropriate for placement through Russell Rescue.  It is important that you are completely honest about your terrier, it increases our chances of making a good match with potential adopters.

It is important to understand that we can't guarantee how long it will take for your terrier to be adopted.  A younger dog that is house trained and well mannered will be easier to adopt than on older dog that has many bad habits.  Having said that I will assure you that we have a very high adoption success rate.  For the most part, it seems that there is someone out there for almost each and every dog we are trying to re-home.

If your dog is approved for rehoming you will also need to provide (please expect to wait 48 to 72 hours to hear back from us):

  1. Proof that your terrier is up-to-date on all of him vaccinations, is spayed and has been tested for and the results show a negative result for heart worm disease or is on preventative medicine.
  1. Any other documentation you might have with respect to your terrier (i.e. breed registry documentation, microchip information, etc.).
  1. Three (3) really adorable and irresistible photos of your terrier for the Russell Rescue, Inc. and Petfinder websites. It may sound superficial, but it is human nature that a wonderful photograph will "capture" a person who is scanning a list of available dogs and increases the chances that will stop and read about the dog.  Ideally, we would like a full view body shot (taken at the dog's level, not from above) of your terrier standing, showing his markings and conformation, and a very happy, irresistible head shot (we can crop the photos, too).

Once the photos, completed forms, documentation and your surrender fee has been received,  your terrier will be posted on the Russell Rescue, Inc. website under dogs available for adoption in California and also on the PetFinder.com website.

You will be involved in the "screening of adopters" process, in that once your terrier are placed on the RRI and PetFinder websites and adoption applications begin to come in for your terrier, the applications will be reviewed, if they seem to be a good "fit" for your terrier, they will be forwarded to you  so that you will be able to talk with them to see how you feel about them.  If you feel the potential adopter would be a very good match for your terrier, you can go ahead and arrange for them to meet your terrier. If you don't feel that they would be good, you can just tell them, "Russell Rescue, Inc.  will be getting back to you."  Either way, you will need to "keep us in the loop" by letting us know if you are arranging to have them meet your terrier or not.

If your dog is approved for placement you will need to complete and sign an Adoption Release Form which will need to be faxed along with a signed copy of the Dog Personality Profile.

**We can't accept biting or aggressive dogs**
